A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)

Its hard nowadays to really make any sort of pre-evaluation of a film based on its trailer due to the fact that they require no sense of plot or story structure. Add to the mix Micheal Bay's hit or miss track record when it comes to producing horror remakes [Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), The Amityville Horror (2005), TCM: The Beginning (2006), The Hitcher (2007), Friday the 13th (2009)] and the skepticism deepens.

This new effort, though, seems to promise a greater sense of exposition on the titular Freddy Krueger which is interesting. Jackie Earle Haley's portrayal (at least in the span of the trailer) of Krueger seems to convey a somewhat tragic demise, setting the stage for a vengeful comeback as the fingernail-challenged dream demon. I guess we'll have to wait until April of next year to find out whether this promising development makes it past the cutting room floor or becomes another satirized tween-slasher cliché.
