If the nihilistic tendencies Jeffrey Dahmer of met the slapstick comedy of Looney Tunes, they would probably birth something much like Happy Tree Friends. Though I've never been a big fan of the web-based series, created by Mondo Mini Shows, I must admit that I am a sucker for anything that can blend a little Halloween spirit with a some laughs. The series, which revolves around the infinitely creative bloody deaths of its cast, doesn't disappoint with its 2009 seasonal fare (7 shorts released this year in addition to a fun mini game). With plenty of references and in jokes for fans of the horror genre, Happy Tree Friends Fright Fest (or Web-Fright) still packs plenty of juvenile jokes to keep it frighteningly fresh. With all the violence and gore, the series is perfectly tailored towards the Halloween/Horror crowd and the creators revel in it. Did I mention there's exploding heads?
