Speaking of Golden Age animation, there's an interesting sample of old meets new currently featured over at Cartoon Brew (also shown above) entitled You Look Familiar. Designed and directed by Belgium natives, Michélé De Feudis & Joris Bergmans, You Look Familiar is seems to be channeling an early Disney or Otto Messmer (Felix the Cat) art style. Bergmans, also recognized for his surreal interactions between animated monsters and real people simply called De Monsters, seems to have provided the bulk of the art direction while indie Belgian pop band Team William supplied the soundtrack.As a whole the video has a kitschy charms that lends itself well to the animation, while simultaneously dealing with some deep issues in regards to dysfunctional families, sex and suicidal thoughts. Not to worry though, it all ends well.
