A Month of Bakshi: The Rolling Stones

When you inspire as much creativity as Bakshi, chances are you're going to attract quite a collection of like-minded clients and collaborators. Much like the classical schools of the Renaissance, creative individuals often find their greatest moments of inspiration (as well as frustration) in the presence of a master artisan. And though some of you may gawk at the comparison of Bakshi to someone like DaVinci, but the reality isn't so far fetched when you think about.

All flattery aside, today's moment in the Month of Bakshi belongs to a little known music video (see above) that he, along with a then-upstart animator named John Kricfalusi (The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse, Ren & Stimpy) and several others, developed for The Rolling Stones for their song entitled Harlem Shuffle.

Appearing in the band's 1986 album, Dirty Work, the song itself was a cover of a 1963 release by the duo Bob & Earl. It has since been covered on several occasions by a cast of equally talented musicians, but it is the unique fusion of live action, animation and the Rolling Stones vocals that make this a video to remember. Check it out above and remember to bring your popcorn, this isn't something they teach in history class.

  1. I'm always on the school computer when you post videos so I can't watch them right off but I will certainly watch this when I get home today. I'm getting so tired of not having my own place to just unwind and relax in with internet and cable (I'd be perfectly fine just having the internet though). Anyways, I talked with my mom about possibly watching Paisley for me so I can come kick it with you in Montgloomery and she said she'd be glad to. So as far as I know I should be able to come down to watch that Wolf Man son! I'll keep you posted and no worries about not callin me I've been pretty busy myself so I completely understand. Talk to you soon brotha! I tried to change the blog a little bit (alternated some colours). Let me know what ya think?

Well at least I know one person is watching, haha. Seriously, though, hopefully the content that you find here is funny, creative and most importantly inspirational.

That's terrific about being able to come down for The Wolfman; can't wait to kick it. Now if only there was a way to catch The House of the Wolfman as well. Off the chain, son.

  1. I freakin LOVE your blog man! I'm on it everyday trying to sink my teeth into that delectable, buttery pop(culture)corn! I learn a great deal from this blog and checking it's content on a daily basis is one of the highlights of being awake...aside from ghost hunting.
