Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty

Its a known rumor that 90% of America's youth think old people are scary...

Ok, so I totally just made that figure up in my head for dramatic effect, but it could be true. Regardless, Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty by director Nicky Phelan is an Oscar-nominated, charming and well-animated short film that exhibits a bitterly humorous wit that could depress the most optimistic 7-year old.

Produced by Brown Bag Films the film features the scripting/voice talent of Kathleen O'Rourke who instills the already bleak tales of the Brothers Grimm with even more sharp-toothed morality. While the visual style and character design of the two main characters would be very much at home in the world of Pixar, the fairy tale sequences have a distinctive flair that is very much its own reminding me of a play put on by a child's paper doll collection with their bright colors and unique patterns.

Clocking in just at 6 minutes, this is definitely one tale that appeals to both the kiddies, their grandparents and everyone in between. Check out the entire film above and for more Granny O'Grimm goodness, visit the official website.

  1. Now...tell me that THAT is not the most amazing thing you have ever seen.

Other than the Black Christmas remake.
