Geek Shriek: Lightning Strikes Twice w/ Multiple 'Thor' Teasers

"I have the POOWWEERRR!"

Oops, sorry, wrong movie. Though if they were ever planning on re-making Masters of the Universe (hey, why not, right?) then it should definitely go something like this footage for the Odinson himself, Marvel's Thor (see above).

This 5 min long teaser footage from Comic-Con has had the internet buzzing since it leaked sometime yesterday and Paramount/Marvel have been frantically trying to put the fire out ever since (rather successfully in most cases). So, in other words, watch it while you can because chances are this won't last either.

Boasting some heavyweight Hollywood headliners, the film stars Chris Hemsworth (as Thor), Natalie Portman (as Jane Foster), Anthony Hopkins (as Odin), and Tom Hiddleston as Thor's villainous younger sibling Loki. The plot follows a brash (and arrogant) warrior who unintentionally sets in motion an age-old war and is subsequently banished to Earth where he must re-evaluate what it takes to be a true warrior and- even moreso- a true hero. Not slated for theatrical release until May 2011, Thor has already become the centerpiece of the geek universe (alongside Ryan Reynolds as the Green Lantern).

Also making the rounds recently has been a much briefer teaser for a Thor video game (most likely a tie-in with the film) which looks as though it'll helmed by SEGA. Not much is revealed in the roughly half-minute teaser, but if they play their cards right it certainly has the potential to be the next God of War franchise. Scheduled for Summer 2011, I guess we'll have to wait a little longer to see how it turns out.

Doesn't it though? I'm really impressed with how well Marvel has been handling their IPs in film. Just enough action to satisfy the inner geek, yet broad enough in scope to bring the ladies. ;)

I'm undecided whether this Thor movie will work. This footage, while awesome in parts, looks horribly cheesy in parts.

I will see it and I look forward to it, but I do so with much trepidation.

Ah, but therein lies the brilliance of a year's wait my boy. Haha.

Seriously, though, I do have high hopes for the film and with roughly a year to go before it's even ready for release I expect Marvel/Paramount to impress.
