I have to say, though sporadic, Cartoon Network has been dropping some awesome Halloween programming this year. Tonight's featured fright, Bugs Bunny's Howl-Oween Special, was a real pleasure. A collection of toons from the 50s and 60s it showcases the spook-themed shenanigans of the mischievous rabbit and his crew as they encounter some seminal horror-inspired WB characters including Witch Hazel and the lesser known Count Blood Count (see insert).
Collecting 6 different stories in all, Bugs Bunny's Howl-Oween succeeds in tying them together quite well thanks to some additional footage and voice-overs. Unfortunately, my favorite of the shorts entitled Transylvania 6-5000 suffers from a re-write that undermines the Count as a viable Looney Tunes character.
