Move over Bob Clark. Watch out Eli Roth. There's a new brand of holiday horror in town, and he's got a hankering for some of that sweet, sweet teen flesh. With its DVD debut on November 17, Thankskilling is set to give Thanksgiving a proper fright... at least until Eli Roth's faux-trailer sees fruition.
An independent film (made for under $3,500 in 11 days), Thankskilling revolves around "a fowl-mouthed homicidal turkey axing off college kids during Thanksgiving break." That being said, there's not much we can expect as far as the special effects (think Lloyd Kaufman), but the entertainment value seems sufficient.
With a premise as simple as most of its stalk 'n slash predecessors, this is definitely the kind of film that gets better with a few good shots of Jim Bean. Whether you enjoy it because its funny, or because its so damn cheesy, Thankskilling doesn't have any preconceived notions of being anything more than what it is. Its a film about a killer turkey [handpuppet] who kills college kids for no apparent reason... and that's enough for me.
